Five years ago my first dog, Tori, died at the age of 15. I had never grieved so deeply. I didn’t intend for her story to become a book, but then I realized that it needed to be. After two months of unrelenting sadness, I recalled the story that I wanted to write when Tori was a puppy.
The illustrated children’s book, How Tori Got Her Wings, will be released fall of 2023. It takes the reader on the joyful quest of Tori, a Golden Retriever who wants to be friends with the geese … but no matter how high she jumps or how far she swims, she can never get close enough. Tori’s gentle and spirited approach throughout her long life carries over into a peaceful death, when she fulfills her long-held dream.
How Tori Got Her Wings was written as a children’s book. But I also wrote it for me, and for everyone who has loved or lost a pet or any loved-one. The book speaks to people of all ages.
